Modern public spaces must comply with accessibility requirements and be available to all categories of users.
When designing sanitary areas, special attention is paid to solutions for people with disabilities and persons with reduced mobility. An important component of such solutions is inclusive toilet cubicles.
Sanitary partitions for people with disabilities and persons with reduced mobility must comply with the requirements established by State Building Norms of Ukraine:
According to these standards, in public restrooms (separately for men and women) it is mandatory to provide:
Figure 1 — Example of arrangement of a universal cubicle in a public restroom
During new construction, a universal cubicle in a public restroom and a universal sanitary-hygienic room must have plan dimensions of at least:
During reconstruction and major renovation, smaller dimensions are allowed:
Recommended dimensions are 1.7 × 2.2 m. At the same time, the design solution must ensure the possibility of maneuvering a wheelchair.
In the cubicle, next to the toilet, space should be provided for placing a wheelchair, as well as hooks for clothing, crutches, and other assistive devices.
Special attention in the design of inclusive cubicles should be paid to door parameters.
The door of a universal cubicle must have a width of at least 0.9 m (during major renovation and reconstruction, at least 0.8 m is allowed), be without thresholds, and open outward.
On the inner side of the door leaf, it is mandatory to provide:

Such requirements ensure ease of door operation and safe use of the cubicle for people with disabilities and persons with reduced mobility.
